Smart Home - Panel information



Qolsys IQ Panel 2

  • This 7" touch-screen panel  acts as the hub of all Smart Home devices. It allows you to control the settings for each of the items, arm and disarm your system, and lots of other features
  • It is not recommended to move the Panel. This can result in the panel losing power and further connectivity issues with other devices in the home
  • The Panel must be returned to our company if the customer cancels Smart Home service

Panel Interface Menu

    The Smart Home Panel's Home Screen displays the following information

    • The Headers & Settings area is on the top of the screen

      • See the current weather (on the left) and date and time (in the middle)

      • Access the system, battery, WiFi, Bluetooth and cellular status, volume, control, brightness etc.

      • Use a custom photo frame when panel is not in use (see below)

    • Message Center (see below)

    • The Primary User Interface area is in the middle of the screen and displays:

    • The Footer area is on the bottom of the screen and displays emergency panic options (see below)


    • Move from page to page and access information with finger touches, swipes, scroll up, down, left and right

    • Touch an icon to view the contents

    • Swipe down to access settings and use the left and right arrows to navigate to other pages 

    • To close a pop up, swipe left or right to dismiss

Message center

    The Message Center on the right (envelope icon) is where security provider messages, provider contact information and video tutorials are housed

    • Get low battery alerts, alarms, power failures and messages from your provider

    • To dismiss a message, touch the circle to left of message and touch OK 

    • Remove all messages by touching Acknowledge All

Image Sensor Controls

Camera Page

    The panel's built in camera captures photos in a variety of situations:

    • Disarm Photos

      • When panel is disarmed manually, the built in camera takes a photograph and saves it in the Arm / Disarm section

      • These photos are accompanied by date, time and username of the individual whose code was used

    • Settings Photos

      • When panel is accessed with an invalid code, the built in camera takes a photograph and saves it in theSettings section

      •  These photos are accompanied by the date and time

    • Alarm Photos

      • When an alarm is triggered, the built in camera takes a photograph and saves it in the Alarms section

    • To view a photo

    • Touch a photo thumbnail on the right of the screen to view it on the left

      • Full Screen: touch the photo on the left to view it full screen

    • Touch it again to return to the camera page

      • Note: while viewing photos full screen you can swipe left/right to view additional photos

Light Controls

Add a User

  • Assign a name and choose an access (permissions) level for each person using the system&

  • Up to 242 users may be added

    1. Master: this level has access to panel functions, camera and system settings

    2. User: this level has access to panel functions and camera

    3. Guest: this level may be given arm and disarm access to those who will use panel on a temporary basis

  • On the panel, swipe down on the bar at the top / middle of the screen (above the time) to access the Settings tray

    1. Touch Settings (wrench icon)

    2. Touch Advanced Settings (cog icon on right)

    3. Enter a Master user code

    4. Touch User Management

    5. Touch Add User

    6. Enter User Name and User Code; then choose the type: Master, User or Guest

    7. Choose an expiration date for temporary access or set to Unlimited

Remove a User

Change Security Code


    1. Select Users on the left-hand navigation bar

    2. Click on the edit pencil on the right-hand side of the User for whom you’d like to update a code

    3. Review user information

    4. Enter a new access code in the text box at the bottom left of the page

    5. Select Save

    Mobile App

    1. Select Users from the menu in the top left-hand corner

    2. Select the User for whom you’d like to update a code

    3. Click on the red security code icon

    4. Update code

    5. Select Save in the top right

Adding a Security Sensor / Z-Wave Device

  • To add a security sensor (image, motion, doors /windows, flood, etc.) or Z-Wave repeater (Smart Bulb, Smart Plug, etc.) on the Security Panel:

    1. Swipe down on the bar at the top / middle of the screen to access Settings tray

    2. Touch Settings (wrench icon)

    3. Touch Advanced Settings (cog icon on right)

    4. Enter a Master user code (as above)

    5. Touch the appropriate device: Security Sensors or Z-Wave Devices

    • If the sensor has a learn button: touch Auto Learn Sensor

    • Wait approximately 20 seconds for the Control Panel to display this message:

      • Image Sensor / Z-Wave Device____ is requesting to be added to your list.  Do you want to continue?

    • Touch OK

    • On the next screen select: the device, add device name, chime type, group, voice prompt settings, etc.

    • Touch Add to complete

    • Verify the sensor displays on the security sensor list

Arming the System

    1. Touch the lock icon to open the arming options menu on the IQ Panel

    2. To activate sensors for doors and windows, touch Arm Stay

    3. To activate sensors for doors, windows and motion sensors, touch Arm Away

    4. Touch the double arrows for other additional options before choosing arming type

    • Bypass: touch the circle next to a sensor to bypass it during the arming sequence

    • Exit Sounds: the panel beeps as the timer counts down

    • Select off to silence beeps before you choose arming type

    • Entry Delay: provides time to disarm, once a delay door is opened

Disarming the System

    1. Touch the lock icon in the middle of the screen of the IQ Panel

    2. Enter valid code

    • Entering a valid code with the time required triggers the alarm

    • When manually disarming the system, the camera takes a photo, saves it and stamps a date, time and name of user

  • To disarm remotely: login to mobile app and touch the red lock icon

Using a Custom Photo Frame when Panel is Not in Use

    • To access the photo frame option, swipe down on the bar at the top / middle of the screen to open Settings

    • The photo frame is in the bottom, center of the Settings tray

    • Touch the Photo Frame icon to open the photo menu

    • Touch a photo to select it; then choose Play to view a photo or Delete

      • To select photos you want to use, either touch each individual photo or choose Select All

    • Save your photos onto a Micro SD card in a folder called Photos

    • Insert your SD card into the slot on the side of the panel and touch Add

    • Touch each photo you wish to choose or choose Select All

    • Choose one of the following:

      • Add: this adds the photos you selected (does not delete the photos already on the panel)

      • Replace: this deletes the photos already on the panel and replaces them with the new photos that were selected

      • Wait at least 60 seconds after the photos copies before removing the SD card

When the Alarm Goes Off

    • There is a loud siren from your panel (and ancillary siren if you have one)

    • You will get notifications and video clips to provide visual verification and more information about the sensor that triggered the alarm

    • You will have an option to cancel or confirm the alarm from the Smart Home app

    • Our monitoring station will call you. You will need to provide the correct passcode and then can confirm or cancel the alarm for dispatch of emergency services

Emergency Panic Alarms

  • When there is an emergency and the system is not armed or a sensor did not trigger, you can send a manual emergency panic alarm

  • The user can speak to the security monitoring agent from the speakers and built in microphone

    1. Touch the alarm icon on the bottom right corner of the screen

    2. Select the type of emergency you are experiencing

  • When an alarm is triggered, the panel sounds the siren and displays a red alarm screen

    • Users can speak to a security monitoring agent from the panel

  • To Cancel or Dismiss an alarm, a valid user code must be entered

    • Be ready to provide your verbal password to the security monitoring agent

    • If you are not able to give the correct verbal password, authorities may be contacted

  • It's important to Prevent a false alarms:
    • False alarms use valuable public service resources and can eventually erode your relationship with local authorities

    • In some areas, authorities even charge a fee for false dispatches to emergency services

    1. Use the system regularly to become familiar with it's operation

    2. Ensure everyone with access to the home has a valid access code and knows how to use the system

    3. Make sure the doors used the most are set up with delays that give enough time to disarm the system when opening them

    4. Use alternative methods to arm and disarm such as the mobile app

Rediscovering the Network after Moving Z-Wave Devices

    After installing or moving a Z-Wave device one should always “Rediscover the Network”. This maps and ensures all devices have the most efficient communication path leading back to the panel

    1. Swipe down on the bar at the top / middle of the screen to access the Settings tray

    2. Touch Settings

    3. Touch Advanced Settings

    4. Enter a master user code

    5. Touch System Tests

    6. Choose Z-Wave Tests

    7. Choose Rediscover Network

    8. Select a single device or all, and then select Rediscover

    9. A result including a time stamp will appear under Status

    10. If a test fails, relocate device, change batteries and/or rediscover network

    11. Troubleshoot the WiFi network if all else fails

Rebooting / Powering Down

    Performing these steps reset may result in data corruption and/or panel failure. Use this process only in extreme cases when absolutely necessary

    1. Swipe down on the bar at the top / middle of the screen to access the Settings tray

    2. Touch Settings

    3. Touch Advanced Settings

    4. Enter a master user code

    5. Select Panel Reboot

    6. Press OK to continue on the pop up window asking Do you want to reboot the panel?

    7. Wait for the panel to restart (about 45 seconds until back on to the home screen)

    • The window message will change to Power Off - Shutting Down with a spinning blue circle icon

    • The screen will turn off and the status LED will turn solid red for 10 seconds

    • The LED will start flashing green rapidly, then slow flash green

    • The screen will display Initializing the App

    • Then the Home Screen will return and the LED will go to solid green
